Following the decision of the FA's independent Regulatory Commission to impose a 5 match ban on Anelka for making the ‘quenelle’ salute during a premier league game (covered in the article below this on our blog) the FA’s Director of Football Governance and Regulation, Darren Bailey, has issued a well balanced and thoughtful response.

The FA has decided, with recent rule changes and other initiatives, that it is sometimes required to place itself in the "vanguard of anti-discriminatory and disciplinary action". Given the public interest in stamping out racism and other forms of discrimination in football (and sports and society generally), the FA's commitment to this is to be welcomed.
